The Folklore Book Tag

Hi my bookworms, it’s been so long since I did a new book tag, and a while back the lovely Jessica over at The Awkward Book Blogger. Please go check out her post as well because it was really great and she’s got really awesome content!

I can’t say I am a huge Taylor Swift fan (at least I haven’t been since way back in her Love Story days) but this tag looked like a lot of fun so I thought why not! And I think the aesthetic kind of fits with the spooky season so it’s perfect.

The Rules

  • Link to the original creator: Ilsa @ A Whisper Of Ink
  • Tag at least 3 people.
  • Declare the rules and list of prompts in your post
  • Thank whoever tagged you and link to their post.

The 1 // a book with an ending that left you speechless

Blood and Honey (Serpent and Dove 2). This book was such a great follow up to the first one and when I tell you my jaw hit the floor in that last chapter… Book 3 cannot come fat enough!

Cardigan // a book that makes you feel happy and sad all at once

The House in the Cerulean Sea! This book was so heart-warming but also heartbreaking. It was a wonderful examination of found family and how being different is a gift not a curse.

The last great american dynasty // a book with a fascinating and well-told story

The Hazel Wood. This one is a few years old at this point but it is one of the most unique books I had read (and still is) in a long time. It was such a lush and intriguing modern fairytale that was both dark and magical all at once!

Exile // a book you wish you hadn’t read

Flamecaster, and not because it wasn’t good. This was the sequel series to the Demon King books and if you have read it you know why I regret it. it basically took my heart and stopped all over it and then kicked it for good measure. I like to imagine characters get their happily ever after when the stories end, this book really crushed that dream.

My tears ricochet // a book that made you cry uncontrollably

The Book Thief hands down. I don’t even think I need to explain why (the movie did not do this book justice).

Mirrorball // a book that feels like it was written just for you

Sorcery of Thorns. This was a book about a girl who loves books! I mean it really just spoke to me.

Seven // a childhood book that makes you feel nostalgic.

Percy Jackson without question! I absolutely cannot wait fo rah new TV show! I still re read these books every couple years and they are always great.

August // a book that reminds you of summer

My Lady Jane. But to be honest I have no idea why… I think it’s just a light read and so I often end up reading it in the summer.

This is me trying // a book that deals with loneliness & sadness

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe. I mean it’s right there in the title! Though this book does take quite a horrific turn so not sure it does a good job at making you feel better about loneliness.

Illicit affairs // a book that gave you a book hangover

The Black Witch. It was all I could think of for weeks later, it is such an involved story with so many characters that it really feels real.

Invisible string // a book that came into your life at the exact right time

Quiet. This is a book by and for introverts, and at the time I was really struggling with being myself and feeling like I was good enough. My dad gave me this book and it really helped me understand myself and validated a lot of what I was feeling.

Mad woman // a book with a female character you adore.

I really liked Citra from the Scythe books! I think she is really underrated and a lot of people first jump to name Harry Potter Characters or someone from Sarah J. Maas’ books, but honestly Citra was wise, she was badass and she saved the world!

Epiphany// a book that was haunting

Anna Dressed in Blood. YIKES I just re read this again and it still creeps me out, it’s a great ghost read for the spooky season.

Betty // a book couple that fills you with yearning

Probably America and Maxon from the Selection. I mean they are just too freakin adorable, and I know their romance is cheesy and whatever, but it gives me butterflies every time I read it.

Peace // a book character you’d die for because you love them so much!

Um there’s too many to count! Fun Lovegood, Percy Jackson, Nikolai Lanstov, Kat Brekker, I mean the list just goes on! Probably throw Thomas from the Maze Runner on there too because I feel like he gets forgotten a lot.

Hoax // a book that you thought you were going to love but didn’t

The Betrothed. WOW was this a disappointment, I really thought I would be getting The Selection 2.0, not this train wreck.

  1. Yep, The Book Thief brought me nothing but tears and sobs… It was one of the books that got me hooked on historical fiction (and experience what a real book hangover is). 😊
