12 Days of Christmas Book tag

Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate it! This is without a doubt my favourite time of year, and so I though the absolute perfect post for today is this really fun tag based off of the classic Christmas carol, the 12 Days of Christmas. I hope, despite the COVID-19 situation, you are all able to find joy this holiday season, and some time to relax and unwind, because man do we need it after the year we’ve all had! This fun tag was created by Falling Down The Book Hole. And I saw it over at Paper Fury so definitely go check out her incredible post as well! I’m going to be taking a little break from blogging over the holiday season, so I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year!

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

Without a doubt, The Priory of the Orange Tree! Though it is a monster of a book, it is so worth the read, I actually wish it wasn’t a stand-alone because the world building was amazing.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Oh that’s a really hard one! I’m not sure because there are so many to choose from. I would say all time favourite is probably Annabeth and Percy from the Percy Jackson books. I just love them both so much and that series was a huge part of my childhood.

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

Since most YA fantasy series are trilogies that’s another hard one! I think I’m going to have to go with A Darker Shade of Magic. That series is just so incredibly written and every time I read it I find new things I love about the story.

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

Oh boy really coming at me with the difficult questions today aren’t we! Since I just finished it and it is fresh in my mind, I’m going to go with an Ember in the Ashes.

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favourite Villain/Antagonist?

I am going to have to go with the Darkling. Honestly there are so many interesting and dynamic villains I have read (I know a lot of people will be screaming Maven or Cardan at the top of their lungs) but the Darkling is such an interesting character and I cannot wait to see him brought to life (Netflix you better not screw this up!)

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

OMG ok I am going to try and not repeat my answers… I’m actually going to go with Renegades by Marissa Meyer. I know it’s not the most exciting pick because it isn’t really a high fantasy, but I loved how she melded the parts I love about superhero comics and created this really wonderful antihero story.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

This is a relatively new release, but it features a sassy and protective cat sidekick that I just loved! I am a sucker for a cute furry companion and I love cats so the moment I saw this little guy on the cover I was hooked.

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

I have to say Harry Potter. I mean come on, the food in this series was so iconic that they started making it in the real world! If you haven’t tried a butter beer already I highly recommend.

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Oooh this is is a hard one too! Um, I will have to go with Citra from Scythe. I think this series gets overlooked WAY too often and itoa was such a strong and capable character. I really loved that the series let her be herself and solve the problems without romance really getting in the way.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.

How about your favourite leading lad?

I have to say I always really loved Thomas from the Maze Runner. Not sure what it is but he was just a really interesting character and I loved reading the series through his point of view. I will also say that having Dylan O’Brien play him in the movies didn’t hurt either.

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I have to go with This Savage Song. The story was so completely unique and I loved the narrative structure. I may have taken some license with this prompt because this book doesn’t reference music or anything, but the theme is there so I’m going to say it counts!

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

It is a three way tie! The House on the Cerulean Sea, Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood, and A Sky Beyond the Storm were all 5 star reads for me this year. They are all wildly different books but each one was really incredible in its own way.

I TAG: everyone! It’s the holiday season, if you want to give it a go, please do! Also let me know your favourite reads of the year down in the comments, I’m always looking to grow my TBR.

  1. Have you read ‘The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” and “The Kingdom of Back”? Based on the books I see in the post, i think you’ll like them. Also, i added a few books from this post on my TBR!😝👀
