Happy Monday bookworms! It’s been a long time since I did a discussion/opinion post and this is a topic I’ve been thinking about a lot, and so I thought it was time I share my thoughts with all of you and see what your opinions are. So I’m sure most if not all of you have heard of GoodReads, and if you haven’t I’m sure you’ve looked for books on Amazon or other retailers and noticed the little star rating the book has received from other readers. Now i love GoodReads, and I definitely rate books on that website all the time (I mean I’m a book blogger, reviewing and rating books is kind of what I do). However, I’ve noticed myself doing something recently and it’s something I’m not happy with. I’ve started judging books by their rating before I even try and read them.
The other day I was scrolling through my “to-read” section as I was on my way to the bookstore, and I found myself only looking for books that had gotten at least 4 stars from previous reviewers. I had to stop myself and think about what I was doing. I don’t know about you guys but I have definitely read books I loved that didn’t get very positive reviews on these kinds of websites.
I am wondering if anyone else has found themselves doing this. Do you guys read reviews before you read a book? Do you find that a book’s rating colours your opinion of it before you’ve even purchased it? Or on the flip side, do you like to know what others think before you spend your money?
let me know your thoughts down in the comments, I want to know if I’m the only one who thinks judging books by their rating is a problem!
