Happy Wednesday book lovers, today I thought I would list some of the upcoming Book adaptions I am really excited about! I have got to say adaptions are really hit or miss, some of them (Harry Potter, The Hunger Games) are amazing and others (Percy Jackson anyone?) are just downright terrible. But here are a few exciting ones to look out for in the next few years.
His Dark Materials (HBO)
Release Date: September 2019
His Dark Materials is set in an alternative world where all humans have animal companions called dæmons, which are the manifestation of the human soul. The series follows the life of young Lyra (Dafne Keen) who is an orphan living with the tutors at Jordan College, Oxford. Based on the Golden Compass story by Phillip Pullman.
Shadow and Bone (Netflix)
Release Date: TBD
Shadow and Bone follow the story of Alina Starkov who discovers she has magical powers that can bring peace to her war-torn home of Ravka. However, there are dark and dangerous monsters who plot against her. … The series will be based on two novels, Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows from the Grishaverse world.
The Witcher (Netflix)
Release Date: Fall 2019
As the official Netflix synopsis reads, the series “is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
Throne of Glass (Hulu)
Release Date: TBD
This series was greenlit in 2016 but there hasn’t been a lot f news about it since, hopefully it actually becomes a reality because I am sure it would be fantastic!
Dune (Legendary Pictures)
Date: November 20, 2020
In the far future of humanity, Duke Leto Atreides accepts stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, “the spice”, a drug which extends human life and provides accelerated levels of thought. Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, the Harkonnens, he takes his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, and most trusted advisers to Arrakis, also known as Dune. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation, which is made perilous by the presence of giant sandworms. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.
I have only heard of one of these, but I do enjoy adaptations.

I’m looking forward to all of these, but especially His Dark Materials and Shadow and Bone. As for Queen of Shadows I haven’t heard a peep since it was announced back in 2016 that Hulu was adapting it.🤷🏻♀️

Ooh I didn’t realise there was a new adaption of Dune coming out! That’s exciting. 🙂 It’ll have a hard time living up to the mini series that the SyFy channel made some years back. That was one if my favs. Great post!
