The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag (2019)

Happy Wednesday my bookish unicorns, today it’s time for another book tag (I just love doing these). I saw this over on A Whisper of Ink and I remember doing it last year so I thought why not?Normally this tag is pretty long but I liked the 5 questions that Ilsa chose so I thought I would continue that trend.

BEST BOOK OF 2019 SO FAR

This is hard, There really haven’t been a lot of stand out books for me this year, and with it being my last year of undergrad I didn’t have as much time for reading as I would have liked. If I had to pick one out of the few I have read (that isn’t my answer for the next question) it would have to be Sky Without Stars, a scifi retelling of Les Miserables that I actually just finished!

BEST SEQUEL OF 2019 SO FAR

Deathcaster (Shattered Realms #4), By: Cinda Williams Chima

My Review: Here

This was just a fantastic end to one of my favourite series! I was sad to see this epic high fantasy saga come to an end but this book made the story feel completed and satisfying so in the end I was actually very happy!

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF SECOND HALF OF 2019

I actually just did a post about this for top 10 Tuesday yesterday! I think Queen of Nothing (Cruel Prince #3) and Supernova (Renegades #3) are at the top of my list. Those are both amazing series that I love so I am really excited to see how they both draw to a close. Hopefully I won’t be disappointed because the last book in a series is always tricky, especially in the fantasy genre.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF 2019 SO FAR

Damsel, By: Elana K. Arnold

My Review: Here

Honestly the book was ok but the lack of warning about how graphic it would be really threw me off. It was advertised as a fairytale retelling not a dark feminist story about sexual and emotional abuse, animal cruelty and other terrible things. The writing was also pretty simplistic and though the ending was satisfying in its own way the book left me with a bad aftertaste.

BOOKS TO READ BY THE END OF 2019

Oh wow that’s a big question! There are literally so many, my TBR list is about 170 books long at the moment (don’t worry I won’t list them all here). I guess If I had to narrow it down I would say definitely the Throne of Glass series (I seriously cannot believe it has taken me this long to get to it, I swear it’s been on my TBR forever), and The Lunar Chronicles because everyone keeps saying I should read those and I just haven’t gotten to it yet!

Now it’s your turn! What books have stood out for you guys so far this year? Did you have a favourite blog post that you made? Maybe a new author you discovered this year… let me know in the comments!

I liked reading your answers! I didn’t realize that there was a sci-fi retelling of Les Miserables! I’ll have to add that book to my TBR 🙂 Thank you for the tag!! 🙂

  3. You have to read the Throne of Glass series! It’s SO GOOD. (Although it’s often hit or miss because some people don’t like the main character. All I have to say is that it gets better with each book.)
    Thanks for tagging me! ❤
