Happy Wednesday bookworms, it’s that time of year again, when grocery store aisles fill to the brim with chocolates, and pink frilly decorations assault you wherever you go… tomorrow is Valentines day! I am not a huge Valentine’s person myself, I have never been big on the holiday, but this year, in the spirit of the day of love, I decided to go through some of the truly swoon-worthy romances in my favourite YA books. I will say that as a rule, I don’t read romance novels (my rule is usually that I have to be able to take the romance out and still have a plot, or I don’t read it) but there are some great couples in regular fantasy and scifi as well. There will be mild spoilers ahead, but I really tried my best to avoid them.
1. Elloren and Yvan, The Black Witch
From the moment I started this series I was in love with these two, and watching their interactions change and grow is one of my favourite parts of these books! I can’t wait to see what book 3 has in store for them
2. Feyre and Rhysand, A Court of Thorns and Roses
*SPOILERS* sorry this one was hard to avoid spoilers. They are definitely not the couple I thought I would be routing for in book 1, but man are they a great pair. I love when the romances surprise you, and people end up with unexpected characters.
3. Cas and Anna, Anna Dressed in Blood
Because she is a ghost and he is a ghost hunter, they definitely have a bit of a Romeo and Juliet vibe going for them. I was sad that this was only a two book series, I wanted more time with both characters!
4. Percy and Monty, A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue
UGH these two are so swoon-worthy! I have talked about them in various other posts, and all my previous points still stand, they are the cutest couple I have read about in a while and I want an entire book that is just about their daily lives together!
5. Kaz and Inej, Six of Crows
This is definitely a slow burn romance, and there is something appealing about them (I guess that’s why TV shows torture us with them all the time) but in the end, I love both characters, and seeing them interact was just icing on the cake.
6. Jane and Gifford, My Lady Jane
This couple is both endearing and hilarious. I love their chemistry and their banter. i don’t think I have laughed so hard while reading a book ever, and for that reason they will always be a favourite couple of mine.
7. Rielle and Audric, Furyborn
Another ill-fated romance, these two are hard not to love. I wish I didn’t know how their story ended so I could just sit back and enjoy their adorable romance in the moment! I really can’t wait for book 2.
8. Han and Raisa, The Demon King
This is one of my all time favourite series, and Han and Raisa, will forever hold a special place in my heart. I would also like to say thank you to the sequel series for tearing out my heart and stomping on it (that was not appreciated).
9. Magnus and Cleo, Falling Kingdoms
Another one of my favourite couples of all time in one of my favourite series! They were also a surprise couple, and it is just one of the many reasons I love them. They clearly adore each other, and don’t let any one tell them they can’t be together!
10. Elias and Laia, An Ember in the Ashes
Their romance has been subtle, but sweet. I love them together as friends or as a couple, so I am happy wherever this series takes it (as long as both of them stay alive and well throughout the entirety of the books).
Now that we are all swooning, what are some of your favourite couples? let me know in the comments!
