Favourite Books Re-Imagined #5

Hey bookworms, it’s that time of month again! I meant to do this post last week but I have been super busy working this summer so far and it totally slipped my mind. I really enjoy doing this post and so far the feedback from you guys has been great, so I will keep them coming. As always I love to hear from you guys (seriously it makes my day) so if you have any requests, suggestions or even just random thoughts you want to share, please let me know in the comments!

For those of you who are new to this post, basically what I do is take three popular YA books or stories and re-imagine them in different ways. Either new perspectives, new setting or new genres.

There will be some spoilers ahead for An Ember int he Ashes, Renegades and City of Bones but I will try to keep them to a minimum.

A New Perspective:

An Ember in the Ashes through the Nightbringer’s perspective

An Ember in the Ashes is one of my all time favourite books, and I think getting a perspective from the Nightbringer, the “villain” of the story would be fascinating. Also because he is a Jinn and sees much more than an ordinary human being, it would definitely lead to some interesting encounters with other characters.

A New World:

City of Bones in a futuristic Mars colony

I think this would just be funny. This was the most outrageous combo I could think of; a magical society that hunts demons and deals with fairies, warlocks, vampires and werwolves living in a scifi environment on Mars… That would just make for some really interesting changes to the story, I’m not sure if it would end up being better or worse, but it would for sure be different.

A New Genre:

Renegades as a Harlequin Romance

Ok I apologize in advance to anyone that loves Harlequin. I can definitely understand why it would be appealing but it has just never been my thing. I definitely think Renegades as a Harlequin romance would be a disaster, I mean there was hardly any romance in the story to begin with! I know what you’re thinking, why would I pick this re-imagining if I thought it would be a colossal failure? well I just thought the challenge of making this change into a good story that is on parr with how amazing Renegades is, would be really interesting. Could the story survive having romance be the central aspect?

What are your thoughts on my re-imaginings? Do you have any you think would go better with my picks? Let me know!

  1. This is such a unique and interesting post series! I have literally never seen anything like it, which is impressive since I have been blogging for over 4 years.

I haven’t read Renegades yet, but I have read both the Mortal Instruments series and An Ember in the Ashes. Honestly, I think that I would like AEITA better from the Nightbringer’s perspectives. I liked the world-building and everything in the story, but I am not the biggest fan of the romance. I have only read the first book, so maybe it gets better later on in the series, but I just can’t get on board with the ship. So, reading the novel from a different POV (with a change romance or no romance at all) would be even better to me! I loved the setting of the Shadowhunter world yet I would pay almost all of the money in the world to see it in space. The prospect of Jace and Clary in space is so ridiculous it is entertaining.
