It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hey bookworms, since I finally have time to read again now that I am exam free and headed back to sunny Canada (laugh if you want but compared to Scotland Canada feels almost tropical in the summer) I decided to do a Monday meme. This meme is hosted by Book Date and is a weekly event to share what we’ve read in the past week, what we are currently reading and what we hope to read next week. This post refers to books I have read or am reading as of May 21st 2018.

So, I didn’t actually read anything last week, unless you count my Machiavelli textbook (which between you and me, I most definitely do not count).

I am currently Reading:

Beyond a Darkened Shore By: Jessica Leake

The ancient land of Éirinn is mired in war. Ciara, Princess of Mide, has never known a time when Éirinn’s kingdoms were not battling for power, or Northmen were not plundering their shores.

The people of Mide have thankfully always been safe because of Ciara’s unearthly ability to control her enemies’ minds and actions. But lately, a mysterious crow has been appearing to Ciara, whispering warnings of an even darker threat. Although her clansmen dismiss her visions as pagan nonsense, Ciara fears this coming evil will destroy not just Éirinn, but the entire world.

Then the crow leads Ciara to Leif, a young Northman leader. Leif should be Ciara’s enemy, but when Ciara discovers that he, too, shares her prophetic visions, she knows he’s something more. Leif is mounting an impressive army, and with Ciara’s strength in battle the two might have a chance to save their world.

With evil rising around them, they’ll do what it takes to defend the land they love…even if it means making the greatest

I was lucky enough to get this book in my April Fairyloot book box, and I am so excited that I finally have time to start reading it.

I Want to Read Next:

Aveyard_War Storm.jpg

VICTORY COMES AT A PRICE.

Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all… starting with the crown on Maven’s head.

But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolishing everything—and everyone—in his path.

War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?

In the epic conclusion to Victoria Aveyard’s stunning series, Mare must embrace her fate and summon all her power… for all will be tested, but not all will survive.

I am so excited to read the final book in the Red Queen series and I hope it lives up to all my expectations.

What about you guys? what are your current, future or past reads? I would love to hear them in the comments.

  1. Thank you for this post, both of those books sound like epic adventures. I love the idea of a book box subscription as well, I’ve never tried one but they seem a great way to find new books to read!

At the moment I’m reading Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. It’s a science fiction novel and I’m normally prejudiced against sci-fi, but it is so heart-achingly emotional that I can’t tear myself away! I love it when a book is completely unexpected and changes the way you think about a genre 🙂
