Soul Ripping Romance Tag

Hey bookworms, it’s time for another Wednesday book tag! I didn’t plan on doing weekly tags but they are just so much fun I can’t help myself. I hope everyone is getting excited for summer, I know I am ready for the warmth. I was tagged by the lovely Windowsill Books for this great tag and I am so excited to give it a go, so let’s get to it!

Share at least 5 (but more are welcome) romances that tugged your heart strings. They can be from books, movies, TV shows, manga; anything you can think of! They can be examples of sad tears, angry tears, happy tears or a combination of all three.

I will try to keep the spoilers to a minimum but there will be a few so I will give ample warning before any of the major ones.

1. Guinevere and Arthur, BBC’s Merlin

 

Let me start off by saying this is my all time favourite TV show, I was (and still am) obsessed with Merlin when it aired. Gwen and Arthur are a couple that is iconic and timeless if you are familiar with the King Arthur mythology. In the TV show there were many heart wrenching moments, tear inducing scenes (I actually did cry, and not like little lady like tear, like serious sobbing), and adorable moments. The most soul ripping moment comes at the end (those familiar with the Arthur story will know what I mean) ***SPOILER*** when Arthur dies, leaving Gwen to rule the kingdom alone. As far as series finales go, I have never cried more than when Merlin is cradling Arthurs body in his arms and we see Gwen as she realizes her King is never coming home.

2. Liam and Ruby, The Darkest Minds

*Spoilers ahead for The Darkest Minds series* Liam and Ruby are one of those couples that is meant to be from the moment they meet, but the author keep s ripping them apart just to break our hearts. After Ruby erases all memories of herself from Liam’s mind at the end of the first book, they have a heartbreaking reunion. The way Liam feels about Ruby, even though he can’t remember her is so heart wrenching, I could’t put the book down.

3. Blue and Gansey, The Raven Cycle

First off if you haven’t read the Raven Cycle series definitely do, it is such a wonderful trilogy. Blue and Gansey **SPOILER** are doomed from the start as their whole relationship starts with the knowledge that Gansey will die within a year. I knew this going in to the series but couldn’t help fall in love with them as a couple, they have their ups and downs but in the end they need each other and it’s heart warming to read about.

4. Fitz and Simmons, Marvel’s Agents of Shield

**SPOILERS** These two are probably my favourite couple in the MCU (can I refer to the show as part of the cinematic universe? ah well doing it anyways). If there ever was a couple more cursed than these two I have yet to see them. Between Jemma getting pulled across the universe to Fitz being brainwashed by an evil android to both of them facing the literal end of the world, I was so happy when the writers finally gave them a moment of happiness. That’s right, they got married!! They are so made for each other it’s almost unbelievable, but that’s what makes them one of my favourite TV couples.

5. Bellamy and Clarke, The 100

Ok so I realize that these two aren’t technically a couple (yet) but their relationship is one of the best I have ever seen in a TV show. They are each other’s rocks, they always look to one another for guidance and support and you can tell they can’t live without each other. I am still holding out hope they will become a couple eventually (Jason Rothenburg if you’re listening please make this happen!).
