My Favourite Series

Hey guys, so this week I thought I would talk about my all time favourite series. They are mostly YA but there are a couple other ones in there because I just couldn’t leave them out! To make things interesting I thought I would order them from least to most satisfying ending, because honestly there is nothing worse than sticking with a series for years only to be totally let down in the last chapter. I will try and keep the spoilers to a minimum but I will include a “SPOILER” warning before anything major.

5. Falling Kingdoms By: Morgan Rhodes

So this series is not finished yet, hence it’s spot as least satisfying ending. I have very high hopes for the last book (as my previous posts have probably made clear, I am slightly obsessed with this series) and I really hope it’s not a let down.

In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power – brutally transforming their subjects’ lives in the process. Amidst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:

Cleo: A princess raised in luxury must embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of a magic long thought extinct.

Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished – and finds himself the leader of a people’s revolution centuries in the making.

Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past – and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword…

The only outcome that’s certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

This is a series perfect for fans of High Fantasy. It is reminiscent of Game of Thrones, and Throne of Glass.

4. The Darkest Minds By: Alexandra Bracken

This series got a lot of mixed responses, I think you either love it or hate it, and I am very much the former. It is number 4 on this list because the ending was very open. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I kind of wanted a little more closure. In an ideal world authors would tell us every detail of our favourite characters’ lives. I just want to know they get a happy ending!

When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that had killed most of America’s children, but she and the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they could not control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones

This is a fun Dystopian series with superpowers and renegade kids. Though the last book moved me to tears, this whole series was an emotional rollercoaster, but definitely in a good way.

3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians By: Rick Riordan

Ok, so I know that this is technically not a YA series, but if I am being honest I would still read it now. This series has so much nostalgia for me and It will be one of my favourites regardless of how old I am! I will say that it may be time to stop having Percy make a cameo in every series Riordan writes. I like seeing that him and Annabeth are happy and living their lives, but at some point I need some closure.

Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school . . . again. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he’s not even sure he believes himself.
Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp.

Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he’s coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he’s angered a few of them: Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.

This series taught me more about Greek Mythology than any school course could. If you are looking for something a bit more YA, the sequel series Heroes of Olympus is also good, but it lacks Percy’s sarcastic humour.

2. The Seven Realms Series By: Cinda Williams Chima

This series is amazing hands down. The world building and character development is complex and really well done. This is probably one of the best High Fantasy series I have ever read. The ending was also extremely satisfying, though as a word of warning if you are happy with the ending DO NOT read the sequel series. It changed the series forever, and I am not happy.

16-year-old Han Alister encounters three underage wizards setting fire to the sacred mountain of Hanalea. Alister is unaware that this will lead to a series of events that threaten to consume the world in chaos. To prevent the wizard Micah from using a magical amulet against him, he makes Micah give him the amulet. Later Alister learns that the amulet has an evil history, and it once belonged to the Demon King. The Demon King is an evil sorcerer who almost destroyed the world a millennia ago. Now, the wizards will stop at nothing to get their amulet back.

Meanwhile, Princess Raisa ana’Marianna, heir to the Gray Wolf throne of the Fells, has her own battles to fight. After spending three years of freedom with her father’s family at Demonai Camp, riding, hunting, and working at the famous Clan markets, she learns that her life is going to completely change. Court life in Fellsmarch pinches like a pair of tight shoes, and Raisa feels like a cage is closing in around her. However, an arranged marriage and an eroded inheritance are the least of her struggles. The power of the Wizard Council is growing, and her people are starving and rebellious.

Even though both Alister and Raisa come from different backgrounds, they wind up in a race to keep balance in the Queendom and to save Fellsmarch.

Again, if you like High fantasy this is a perfect series for you!

  1. Harry Potter By: J.K. Rowling (was it ever going to be something else?!)

Honestly there isn’t much I can say here. Harry Potter is and will always be my absolute favourite series. That is not to say I haven’t read books that are objectively just as good, but since I read the first book at the age of 7 and grew up with them, this series holds a special place in my heart. I don’t think I need to include a synopsis, because If you don’t know what Harry Potter is about you have clearly been living under a rock or in outer space for the last 20 years! And if that is the case, my deepest apologies, please run to the nearest bookstore and purchase this entire series! And the ending was just perfect. I loved that it provided closure but not too much (also you should know I do not consider Cursed Child part of the series, I see it as more of Fan Fiction).

What are your favourite series? what is the most satisfying series ending you have read? let me know in the comments!

  2. I’m going to be honest and say that I haven’t read any of these series. But I have wanted to read the Harry Potter series for a while now! I really enjoyed the Numb3rs trilogy and The House of Night series, but that one had a semi-disappointing ending.
